These two pictures are of a 1927 Erskine
convertable that is owned by the Huntsville Depot Museum in
Huntsville, Alabama. It's in a garage now, but rumor has it that the
museum is going to restore it, as well as other antique cars it owns,
and then open an antique car exhibit.

This picture of a 1929 was sent to me by Ray Hayes. It was owned
by his grandfather, Hugo Hecht, who left the car at a garage.
According to Ray "the car needed a rebore after only 6 months from
new, and my grandfather was so annoyed at this he took it to a
garage, left it ,and never collected it again! The photo was taken
on the 8th of June, 1930, at Churchill, near Bristol, UK.

These are some pictures that I took while in Huntsville, Alabama
the weekend of May 18, 1998. I hope you enjoy them.
The first set of pictures are of the Albert Russel Hotel.
Actually, it's a retirement home known as the Albert Russel
Apartments now.According to Dot, the resident manager, the Hotel was
built in 1928 and used to be one of the most elegant in Alabama. The
ballroom played host to senetors and degnitaries from around the
country and the world. Click on the thumbnails to see the full
picture.
The next set of pictures are of the home of
Albert Russel Erskine. The first of this set is a sign that marks the
home so visitors will know who the original owner was. When you click
on the third picture look closely at the window panes in the top
floor. Apparently Mr. Erskine was superstitious. Some of the panes
are blue, which was supposed to promote good health.
The next two pictures are of A.R. Erskine's crypt at
Maple Hill Cemetery.
The last picture is of the home of Dr. Alexander
Erskine. According to Judy
ErskineA.R.Erskine is my husbands' grandfather as well as his
namesake Albert Russel Erskine III. As for Alexander Erskine, he is
the grandfather of A.R.Erskine Sr. He was born in Huntsville on April
11, 1791. He studied in Huntsville, Georgetown, and at West Point and
graduated at the Univ. of PA. medical school. He married Susan
Catharine Russel and lived at 515 Franklin in Huntsville. His wife
was the daughter of Dr. Albert Russel a noted physician in the
American Revolution. William Michael Erskine was the youngest son of
Alexander and Susan Catharine. This is just a little of the family
history which I have found out about. I would be happy to share any
other with you or if you have anything to share with us. Once again,
thank you for this wonderful website. Sincerely, Judy
Erskine
I hope you have enjoyed these pictures. If you have
something of interest that concerns the Erskin Clan and would like me
to add it,e-mail me and I
will be happy to include it on this site. And please, don't forget to
sign my guestbook
and tell me what you think about my site.
